Austim Awareness – A Day on the Deck

Sunday was one of those beautifully warm, lazy days that you just want to spend outside but not necessarily go anyplace. So we spent a good deal of time on the deck behind the house. Kayleigh Anne discovered the wonder of sidewalk chalk last fall, and now that the weather’s warmer she’s thrilled to be back to work decorating the wooden planks with multicolored artwork.

Often, people tend to think of children with autism as sitting on the sidelines, rocking back and forth oblivious to what goes on around them. The quintessential “Rainman” sometimes comes to mind. But, Kayleigh is far from a passive observer. She’s anxious to get involved just as any kid her age would.
