When Color Doesn’t Work

What a great moment! However, photographically I can’t get past the distracting color of the officiant’s sash. Don’t get me wrong, it was quite striking and in other shots it’s a fantastic, colorful element. But in this case all eyes should be on the ring with no visual competition. Yet I wouldn’t consider a tighter crop… I like the sense of time and place the relatively close background provides.

This is a perfect example of how color can, at times, be more distracting than beneficial and how a strong black and white photo can really focus on the subject at hand. By removing the distracting color, the eye stays with the ring and the story.
