I’m always looking for opportunities to capture typical scenes in a slightly different way. At various times during Laura and Andrew’s wedding ceremony I noticed the flower girl was bored and restless, as the youngest members of the party often are. However her attention was grabbed toward the end, when they were announced to their guests as husband and wife.
I love the fresh perspective that this image offers while still telling the story. As viewers, we see the scene from a low perspective, from the little girl’s point of view. There are two distinct, yet interrelated, stories going on in this photo. Action and reaction, even though there is almost no movement.
One could easily crop the scene to show only the newlyweds and have a perfectly adequate image, but the flower girl adds a pleasing element that extends the story nicely without detracting from it.
